This is part of a 19 count vintage Porsche collection in San Ramon. Apollo Auto Spa was asked to paint correct the severe oxidation on this one and the results are extraordinary.
Working with damaged single stage paints is a tad complicated when you can’t clean your pads with water (powerwasher or outside hose)
Goal: To remove visible paint and metal oxidation. Finely polish, wax.
Block/flat sanding was not requested, the goal was to leave the finish as original as possible and remove the issues.
There are images that would seem to have swirls, you are seeing microdots in the finish, pinholes.
Products used:
TLC+ compound
TLC+ polish
(Secret molecularly ultrafine polish)
Meguiars Marine Wax ‘Excellent Protection’
Machines:
Flex rotary
Rupes 15 to knock down all rotary marks
PC for final polishing/wax application
912 single stage was paint depth gauged, prior to start.
Slowly working panel by panel, removing several ‘loose’ items such as front badge, headlights, rear engine vent color and lettering and carefully leveling the oxidation, moving into the final polishing routines (more than 1) nets an extremely different vehicle.
Result
The finish regained depth and vibrancy consistent with well-preserved vintage paint. While micro-pitting and historical imperfections remain visible upon close inspection, the vehicle now presents significantly improved gloss and visual uniformity.
Vintage finishes require experience and restraint. The correct result is not always maximum correction, but appropriate preservation.
